According to a whistleblower complaint, billionaire Elon Musk’s team of technologists may have been responsible for a “significant cybersecurity breach,” most likely involving confidential case files at America’s federal labour inspector.
The complaint, addressed to Republican Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton and his Democratic counterpart Mark Warner, and made public Tuesday by Whistleblower Aid, is based on the testimony of Daniel Berulis, an information technology staffer at the National Labor Relations Board.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), a New Deal-era institution entrusted with defending workers’ rights to organise and join unions, has long been a target of America’s business titans, including Musk, who are now attempting to have the organisation’s powers deemed illegal.
Berulis said in an affidavit that Doge employees were allowed extraordinary access to the NLRB’s networks, which store sensitive case data. He stated that beginning in early March, logging methods used to audit users looked to have been tampered with, and that he discovered the removal of around 10 terabytes of data from the NLRB’s network shortly later.
