US President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, will go to Moscow this week for a new round of discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the Ukraine conflict, the White House announced Tuesday.
Witkoff had already held three lengthy sessions with Putin to discuss the chances for an end to the Ukrainian conflict.
According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, President Donald Trump spoke with Witkoff earlier in the day and “they wanted everyone to know that the negotiations continue”; Witkoff was scheduled to visit Russia later this week.
According to her, Trump “wants to see peace, he wants this war to end” and has become irritated with both sides of the conflict.
Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yury Ushakov said earlier on Tuesday Witkoff would visit Moscow this week, according to Interfax.
The meeting comes as talks prepare to get under way in London on Wednesday regarding the war in Ukraine.
