A court in Dhaka has ordered the seizure of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi residence, ‘Sudasadan’, along with several other properties owned by her family members, The Dhaka Tribune reported.
An official said that the court has also ordered the seizure of 124 bank accounts belonging to her and her family.
The house, named after the late nuclear scientist and Hasina’s late husband, MA Wazed Miah—who was nicknamed Sudha Miah—has also been seized.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib on Tuesday, following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The seized properties include those owned by Hasina’s son, Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, sister, Sheikh Rehana, and her children, Tulip Siddique and Radwan Mujib Siddique.
Dhaka lodges protest with India
On 6 February, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs lodged a strong protest with the Indian government over what it described as “false and fabricated” remarks by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The ministry accused her of using social media to incite instability.
