On Sunday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. paid a visit to the epicentre of Texas’ still-growing measles epidemic, the same day a funeral was conducted for a second child who not being vaccinated and died from a measles-related illness.
Kennedy stated on social media that he was attempting to “control the outbreak” and travelled to Gaines County to console families who had lost two young children. He was spotted late Sunday afternoon outside a Mennonite church where burial services were performed, but he did not attend a neighbouring CDC press conference regarding the epidemic.
Seminole is the epicentre of the epidemic, which began in late January and is still growing, with approximately 500 cases in Texas alone, with instances suspected to have moved to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Mexico.
The second young kid died Thursday from “what the child’s doctor described as measles pulmonary failure,” with no underlying health issues, according to a news release from the Texas State Department of State Health Services on Sunday. Aaron Davis, a spokeswoman for UMC Health System in Lubbock, stated that the youngster was “receiving treatment for complications of measles while hospitalised.”
