The Supreme Court of India is in discussions with NVIDIA to secure high-performance GPUs for a new data centre aimed at enhancing its digital capabilities. This initiative is part of the court’s effort to modernise its IT infrastructure and support critical business applications.
As the largest content creator in India, the judiciary plans to livestream court proceedings across 17 courtrooms, significantly increasing its data generation. To manage this growth, the court needs a powerful data centre to handle the volume of information produced.
Top official states that the Supreme Court is looking to use AI for various tasks, including transcribing live proceedings and translating judgments and court documents into local languages. By partnering with NVIDIA, the Supreme Court hopes to establish an advanced data centre that will make its operations more efficient and accessible to the public.
In 2023, the Supreme Court issued a request proposing the design, development, and implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI) solution and tools to transcribe court orders and proceedings.
Initially, the AI tool for transcription will be deployed for Constitution Bench matters. Once the effectiveness of the AI solution is demonstrated, the Supreme Court plans to gradually extend its use to cover a wider range of cases and proceedings.
