Edgewood College and UW-Whitewater’s nascent nursing partnership at the university’s Rock County campus is newly beefed up, with the completion of three labs stocked with robotic patients.
Launched in fall 2023, Edgewood and Whitewater’s partnership lets nursing students earn a bachelor’s degree from Edgewood while taking classes at UW-Whitewater’s campus in Janesville. Nearly two dozen students are enrolled.
Now, those students have areas to simulate patient interactions and conduct clinicals — with robotic patients — before they join the workforce with human ones.
The newly completed project includes three patient rooms, which all connect to a control room where instructors can observe and students can record video and audio clips of their work. In the lab, the robotic patients are programmed to mimic real-life ailments a human patient could be experiencing when they walk into a doctor’s office or emergency room.
