On Thursday, October 24, Congress announced its first list of 48 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. The list includes prominent figures such as state party chief Nana Patole, who will contest from Sakoli, former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan from Karad South, and Vijay Wadettiwar, the Leader of Opposition in the outgoing Assembly, from Brahmapuri.
Of the 48 candidates, Congress has retained 25 sitting MLAs.
This announcement follows the declaration by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, consisting of Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Shiv Sena (UBT), that they will contest 85 seats each in the November 20 elections. However, discussions about the allocation of the remaining 33 seats among smaller parties and the three main allies are ongoing.
