US Vice President JD Vance will travel to India soon on an official visit, according to a report.
The visit to India would be Vance’s second visit as the Vice President of the United States after a visit to Europe last month.
Politico has reported sources as saying that Vance will visit India later this month.
The outlet reported that he will be joined by Second Lady Usha Vance, whose parents moved to the United States from India.
The visit would come at a time when India is scrambling to strike an trade understanding with the Donald Trump administration to avoid getting into a tariff war with the United States. While no targeted tariffs have been imposed on India, there is a risk of country being battered by Trump’s reciprocal tariffs. Trump has repeatedly referred to India as an abuser of trade and has slammed high tariffs. Just yesterday, the Narendra Modi government confirmed trade deal talks are on.
“Under the ambitious ‘Mission 500’, both countries aim to more than double US-India trade to $500 billion by 2030 to be achieved by deepening the trade relationship across multiple sectors. Both countries plan to negotiate a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement. Both countries would focus on increasing market access, reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers, and enhancing supply chain integration,” the government told the parliament in a statement.
