Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced the creation of a ‘National Large Language Model’ to develop artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in India.
Addressing a post-budget webinar on boosting job creation, PM Modi said, “The world awaits a reliable, safe, and democratic nation that can provide economical AI solutions”, as he urged the private sector to stay ahead of the global curve in this field and emphasising that investments made in this sector today will yield significant advantages in the future.

“The vision of investment in people stands on 3 pillars – Education, Skill and Healthcare. Today, you are seeing how India’s education system is going through a huge transformation after several decades. Big steps like National Education Policy, expansion of IITs, integration of technology into the education system, usage of full potential of AI, digitisation of textbooks, making study materials available in 22 Indian languages, several such efforts are underway,” PM Modi added.

Highlighting the importance of the Gyan Bharatam Mission in safeguarding India’s vast manuscript heritage, PM Modi announced plans to digitise over one crore of manuscripts as part of the initiative. This effort will pave the way for a National Digital Repository, allowing scholars and researchers across the globe to explore India’s historical and traditional knowledge, he said.
