US President Donald Trump got distracted during a press briefing with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin at the White House on Wednesday.
The reason for this distraction? Vice President JD Vance’s shamrock-themed socks. A shamrock is a type of clover and a symbol of Ireland, often linked to St. Patrick’s Day.
The moment led to laughter from both Vance and Martin as Trump got distracted and admitted he was struggling to focus because of his deputy’s socks.
“I love these socks. What’s with these socks? I’m trying to stay focused, but I’m very impressed with the VP’s socks.”

“I love these socks. What’s with these socks?” Trump asked Vance as he pointed to his feet.
“I’m trying to stay focused, but I’m very impressed with the VP’s socks,” the US President added as Vance continued to laugh.
Reacting to the video, JD Vance said, “I knew he’d comment on these socks.”
Later in the evening, Martin returned to the White House and presented Trump with a bowl of shamrocks during an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The two also attended an annual luncheon at the Capitol.
