Cradlewise, the AI-powered smart crib recently endorsed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has officially launched in India with a clear mission: to empower mothers with tech-enabled support in their parenting journey. Built with a deep understanding of the caregiving burden often placed on women, especially in Indian households, the crib acts like a helpful extra pair of hands for sleep-deprived parents.
“In Indian households, it’s very normal for the primary caregiving responsibility to fall on the mother,” said Radhika Patil, Co-Founder and CEO of Cradlewise. “With the crib, we have seen that parents, especially mothers, are able to work from home, and it reduces anxiety because they feel supported. It gives you that extra help when you need it the most—especially at night when you’re tired and drowsy.”
Cradlewise is not just a crib—it’s a smart device that combines contactless monitoring with artificial intelligence. It tracks the baby’s movement, breathing patterns, and eye openings to detect early signs of wakefulness. Using this data, it gently bounces the baby back to sleep before they fully wake or cry. “It’s the world’s first crib with a contactless baby monitor integrated with it,” said Patil. “We learn patterns unique to each baby and soothe them just in time—because, as a parent, timing is everything.”
The smart crib currently retails for around ₹1.6 lakh, positioning it as a premium product. But Cradlewise plans to introduce more affordable versions tailored to the Indian market. “We have been lean as a startup, so we’re offering the same model globally and in India for now. But we do have plans to offer more variants,” Patil said.
Cradlewise also recently moved its manufacturing base to Pune, after initially producing in China and Vietnam. “It’s just this ‘Make in India’ pull,” said Patil. “There’s been a growing openness among vendors to work with startups, and Pune offers skilled labour, port access, and better control for our team.”
The company, which has already delivered nearly 30 million hours of restful sleep across the US and Canada, is now expanding to Australia, the Middle East, and the UK. Setting up its manufacturing facility has been a key step toward profitability, and Cradlewise is also investing in R&D to build a broader ecosystem of products, including toddler beds and standalone baby monitors.
“We’re looking to capture the kids’ sleep space,” Patil added. “A lot is being done for adult sleep, but in the kids’ space, there is still a white space.”
One unexpected boost came from Silicon Valley. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly praised the product and revealed he uses it for his child. “It was an amazing call-out,” Patil said. “It has brought us a lot of visibility and trust—because you don’t want to use a new product for your baby. This helps us propel our brand and build trust across the parenting ecosystem.”
What started as a passion project in Patil’s home in Bengaluru is now a full-fledged global tech company redefining baby sleep—while keeping the needs of real parents, especially mothers, at the centre of its mission.
