GOP lawmakers slammed US President Joe Biden shortly after he pardoned his son Hunter Biden. The presidential pardon was seen as a major reversal for Biden, who repeatedly said that he would not use his executive authority to pardon his son and let the judicial system complete its process.
Leading the Republican crusade against Biden was President-elect Donald Trump’s Communication Director Steven Cheung, who reacted to the announcement without naming Biden or his son. “The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system,” Cheung said in a statement.
“That system of justice must be fixed and due process must be restored for all Americans, which is exactly what President Trump will do as he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people,” he added. Shortly after Cheung’s remarks, Trump himself reacted to the news, calling it an “abuse” of the American justice system.
“Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!” the President-elect wrote on TruthSocial. Meanwhile, many Republicans in the US Congress also attacked the decision, insisting that the Biden family is “avoiding accountability”.

Several Republican lawmakers called out Biden’s changed stance on the matter and compared it with the treatment Trump received. “His FBI and DOJ raided Barron’s bedroom and Melania’s closet at Mar-a-Lago,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., said on X, referring to the federal raid on Trump’s home in Florida in connection with the now-dismissed classified documents case against Trump. “Joe Biden is a liar and a hypocrite, all the way to the end,” she added.
