Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday praised Elon Musk, comparing him to Soviet space pioneer Sergei Korolev, Russia’s state news agency TASS reported.
Speaking to students about Russia’s space plans, Putin said, “There’s a man living in the US who’s absolutely obsessed with Mars.”
TASS quoted Putin comparing Elon Musk to Sergei Korolev, the Soviet engineer who helped launch Yuri Gagarin into space in 1961.
“People like that are rare,” Putin said. “They’re driven by big ideas that may seem impossible now but often come true later.”
Putin has praised Musk before, calling him “an outstanding person.” Musk, who advises U.S. President Donald Trump, has recently spoken out against Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since 2022.
