In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday (March 19), US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran regarding its support for Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
He claimed that while Iran has reduced its direct military assistance to the Houthis, it continues to supply them with substantial resources. Trump demanded an immediate cessation of these supplies, stating, “Let the Houthis fight it out themselves.”
He further asserted that the Houthis would be “completely annihilated” due to the “tremendous damage” already inflicted upon them.
This is not the first time that Trump has threatened Iran on their support for Houthis.
US military action against Houthis
This declaration comes in the wake of intensified US military actions against the Houthi insurgents. Over the past week, American forces have launched a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi positions in Yemen. These operations, described as the most significant US military intervention in West Asia since Trump’s inauguration, have resulted in substantial casualties.
According to the Houthi-run health ministry, at least 53 individuals have been killed, with many others wounded.
The US administration justifies these strikes as a necessary response to the Houthis’ persistent attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea, which have disrupted vital maritime trade routes.
