Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday said that Kyiv has accepted a US proposal seeking a complete ceasefire for 30 days in the Black Sea and along the entire front line.
According to The Guardian report, citing a statement released following a meeting between senior officials from the US and Ukraine in Jeddah, Zelenskyy said, “The American side understands our arguments, accepts our proposals. I want to thank President Trump for the constructiveness of our teams’ conversation.”
Zelenskyy highlighted that the Ukrainian delegation’s proposal addressed three key points: ensuring “silence in the sky” and at sea, along with “real measures to establish trust,” which includes the release of prisoners.
The Ukrainian president claimed that the US proposed to establish a complete ceasefire for 30 days in the Black Sea and along the entire front line.
“Ukraine accepts this proposal. We consider it positive, and we are ready to take such a step,” he said in the statement.
Meanwhile, the US agreed to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine immediately after talks in Saudi Arabia in which Kyiv voiced readiness to accept the US proposal, the countries said in a joint statement.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he would now take the offer to the Russians, and that the ball is now in Moscow’s court.
“The President wanted this war to end yesterday… So our hope is that the Russians will answer ‘yes’ as quickly as possible, so we can get to the second phase of this, which is real negotiations,” Reuters quoted Rubio as saying to reporters, referring to US President Donald Trump, after the statement was issued.
