MVHS robotics team award
The Monte Vista High School Red Tie robotics team is celebrating its success at a regional competition in southern California earlier in the month.
The team earned a Rising All-Star award in this year’s Pinnacles Regional FIRST Robotics Competition in Hollister on March 1 and March 2, with this year’s challenge requiring participants to build a robot with the capacity for marine exploration and conservation efforts, according to a press release this week.
“This award celebrates a team that has demonstrated exceptional perseverance and teamwork while competing against others and collaborating to solve an engineering design problem — an experience that mirrors real-world engineering challenges,” Red Tie Robotics wrote in a March 6 press release.
The Monte Vista team made it to the semifinals in this year’s competition, but “narrowly missed being selected as a team captain.”
The team is seeking to use their recent strong performance as a foundation for future success in the Pinnacles competition and others.

The second hike is scheduled to kick off from Old Ranch Park and proceed along the Summit View Trail to the Dougherty Valley Ridge Trail from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. April 12.
