It is a sad day for India as the country woke up to the news of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s demise.
Born in September 1932, in Gah in present-day Pakistan, he earned a First-Class Honours degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge in 1957 and later pursued a DPhil in Economics at Oxford.
Singh, who was appointed as the finance minister by PM PV Narasimha Rao in 1991, changed the face of the Indian economy with his policies. He not only helped the Indian economy recover in 1991 through policies of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation but also strengthened it during the 2008 recession.
Often termed as the ‘silent prime minister’, Singh had a lot to say. Here is what he thought about his career, life and most importantly people.
