At least 72 people were killed in the span of 24 hours after Israel conducted numerous strikes across Gaza. Since there are communication difficulties in the northern side of the coastal enclave, local authorities believe that the death toll might be much higher.
According to The Guardian, in the central town of Khan Younis, 38 people, including at least 13 children were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Friday. In a statement, the Israeli military said that it had killed Palestinian gunmen in air and ground strikes in the Manara neighbourhood. Meanwhile, internet and phone service blackouts have left northern Gaza completely paralysed.
In a statement on Friday, the UN’s human rights chief, Volker Türk described the ongoing situation in the region as the “darkest moment” of the war. “Israeli military is effectively subjecting an entire population to bombing, siege and risk of starvation,” he remarked.
“Unimaginably, the situation is getting worse by the day … We are facing what could amount to atrocity crimes, including potentially extending to crimes against humanity,” the UN official added.
Multiple explosion rocks Tehran
While Gaza, reels through the wrath of Israel, reports are emerging that at least five explosions are heard near the Iranian capital of Tehran, The Times of Israel reported. Shortly after the news stirred headlines, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) confirmed that the Jewish nation launched strikes in Iran.
In a statement, the IDF stated that it is carrying out “precise strikes” on Iranian military targets, in response to “months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel.”
“The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7th – on seven fronts – including direct attacks from Iranian soil,” the military added. IDF mentioned that its “defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized,” and that it “will do whatever necessary to defend the State of Israel and the people of Israel.”
